Spotlight on Volunteers: Vivian Pei MBA2000

In recognition of the vital role volunteers play in the life of London Business School, we have pledged to raise 100,000 volunteer hours alongside our goal to raise £100 million. The response so far has been outstanding with alumni already contributing over 56,000 hours.

We caught up with Vivian Pei MBA2000, who has contributed countless hours over the years, to discuss the incredible contribution she’s made to LBS since she completed her MBA.

From project managing civil engineering projects in France and running restaurants in the States to selling pet food in Asia, this busy mother of two has a varied background. Vivian runs a cooking school and has a niche distribution business while volunteering for LBS.

Vivian’s always enjoyed connecting people. She was involved in many clubs as a student and started volunteering as MBA2000 Class Rep shortly after she graduated. When she moved to Singapore in 2006, she got involved with the Singapore Alumni Club and took up the reins as President at the first meeting she attended.

Vivian represents LBS on the Executive Committee of the Distinguished Universities Alumni League (DUAL), an umbrella organisation comprised of 20 university alumni clubs. She also served on the International Alumni Council from 2008 to 2014, and has helped out at MBA information sessions, Singapore Career Treks and with interviewing candidates.

Celebrating her 15-year Reunion this year, Vivian still relishes the unique LBS camaraderie that she first experienced as a student. To her, the alumni community has always been warm and welcoming and it continues to be a delight to catch up with classmates and connect with the ever-growing international LBS family. Over Reunion weekend, she was awarded the 2015 Alumni Service Award in recognition of her outstanding service to the School as Club Leader, Class Chair and International Alumni Council member.

Vivian is particularly passionate about supporting scholarship initiatives. She’s been involved with both the MBA2000 Scholarship and the LBS Fund and takes great pleasure in helping to expand opportunities for outstanding students to access the School.

Vivian loves her various volunteering roles, and would like to encourage fellow alumni to give it a try. “It doesn’t have to be a big commitment,” she says. “Start with something small that appeals to you and then if you find that suits you, expand from there.”

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all volunteers who, like Vivian, share their talents and valuable time to contribute to the School’s future. LBS would simply not be the same without each of you.
