Spotlight on Donors David Kotler MBA27 1989
When Campaign Committee member, donor and volunteer David Kotler reflects on his time at London Business School, it’s the strength of the faculty that stands out. Not only were his lecturers intellectually stimulating; they were – as they are now – active in the business world and keenly attuned to its ebb and flow.
LBS was considerably smaller and less well known, with far fewer international students, when David studied here in the 1980s. Originally from Canada, David was looking for a European university based in a global financial centre for his MBA. LBS, with its reputation for excellence, very much fitted the bill.
David went on to a successful career in investment banking, first at Lazard and later at Morgan Stanley, where he was Co-Head of the Energy Mergers & Acquisitions division. During his career he’s advised corporates and governments and today is the managing partner at Access Corporate Finance Partners, a corporate finance advisory firm specialising in energy and infrastructure.
David unequivocally attributes his career success to his time at LBS and says he owes a debt of gratitude to the School that helped him achieve so much. For the 20 years after he graduated, David was busy building his career, though he maintained periodic engagement with the School. And then, in 2010, the Advancement team reached out to him. By that time he was in a senior role and had more time to contribute to the School’s future.
David has chosen to focus his donations on scholarships through the LBS Fund. When he studied here he didn’t have the financial means to do so independently and had to rely on a loan to fund his studies. Now he’s helping students in similar situations transform their lives. He talks about the great pleasure it gives him to watch others develop, achieve and create something truly meaningful with their lives.
Alongside his generous donations to the LBS Fund, David sits on the Campaign Committee. He strongly encourages any alumni who, like him, have found the LBS experience to be transformative to offer either financial support or time to help a new generation of students transform their lives.
