LBS alumnus pledges £5 million to the Campaign

Alumnus Savio Kwan MSc09 (1976) has made a generous gift of £5 million to the Campaign that will support an endowed scholarship programme and establish the Charles Handy Chair – named in honour of one of our most distinguished faculty who had a major influence on Savio.

Savio is the former President and Chief Operating Officer of Alibaba and until recently, an Independent Non-Executive Director at until its privatisation. Having been an annual donor since 1994, Savio took a lead position in the MSc09 Scholarship fund and now has pledged £5million to the Campaign. London Business School is enormously grateful to Savio for his leadership, commitment to the School and support of the Campaign – aiming to raise £100 million to support our faculty and student ambitions for the next 50 years.

Savio is an incredible ambassador for the School. He has been instrumental in linking ties between London and Hong Kong and China, setting up company visits for students, and regularly giving his time to speak at student conferences and in class lectures.

Rajesh Chandy, Professor of Marketing and Tony & Maureen Wheeler Chair in Entrepreneurship, said of the gift, "Savio is a source of inspiration and pride to London Business School students, faculty, and alumni. This gift is another manifestation of his commitment to the School, and his ability to inspire others."

Susie Balch, Associate Dean of Advancement comments, “Support of this kind is crucial to the success of the Campaign and the future of London Business School.”
